*Seongsan Sunrise Peak : It is one of the special places that people visit to see the sun rise as each old year turns to the new. Seongsan Sunrise Peak, listed as first of the “Ten Best Sceneries of Youngjoo”, is a tuff cone crater that was formed when a volcano erupted under the ocean. It was designated as Natural Monument No.420 in 2000. The cone has a large basin atop, reminding viewers of a meadow. One thing to keep in mind is that it is not easy to climb as it rises to 182 meters above sea level, with a steep slope. Yet the wind that embraces yoru entire body on the peak will more than make up for the sweat you shed to get there.
*Darangshi Oreum : It is located on Mountain No.6, Sehwa-ri, Gujwa-eup, Jeju City, between Bizalim (Cedar trees forest) and Yongnuni Oreum. This Oreum is the second highest one with 382 meters height above sea level. It also has 1,013 meters foot diameter and the whole circular diameter is 3,391 meters in total. There was a village named “Darangshi” nearby the hill top with a bad historical record as 11 people’s death at the last anti-communist massacre on the 3rd April, 1948. The name Darangshi (Jeju dialect) was called from the shape of the crater at the mountain top looked like a rounded full-moon.
*Bijarim Forest : It is designated as natural monument number 374. This forest has a group of about 2,800 nutmeg trees between 500 and 800 years old in a huge area. This is a rare and valuable nutmeg tree forest you can’t find anywhere else in the world. Strolling through the Bijarim forest filled with fresh air is said to have many healthful effects on your body by helping to relax the blood vessels, relieve mental and physical fatigue and restore your natural body rhythm. Especially, it will always remain a delightful memory of your therapeutic walk in the dense and scented forest.
*Geomun Oreum : It opened in 2009 to share the site’s natural beauty. The trekking course harmonizes a 5 km lava path with the 8 km Taeguk Path. You can enjoy Jeju’s beautiful scenery by going around the nine peaks along the ridge of Geomun Oreum. It is so named becuase its dense forest looks black ( Geomun means black ). The Geomun Oreum trekking course is a place where you can experience a natural forest and wildflowers such as hydrangea serrata, raspberry and thistle.
