Dongbaek Dongsan, literally means camellia hill, is located in Seonheul-ri, Jeju city. it shows excellence in preservation of the natural condition of grassland and wetland. It is also famous for a rich forest with its unique ecosystem. After lava flew on the ground, it created hills and through the cracks of the rocks, it kept high temperature and humidity and those made an ideal habitat for ferns and evergreen trees of warm temperature zone. Not only various lava formation can be seen including lava caves and lots of tall growing trees. The forest has many wetlands and their wetland vegetation include water-shield plant and lots of different flora.
It is a protected wetland by the Ministry of Environment. Its importance is recognized internationally as it was designated as a Ramsar Wetland and a Geopark site.
If you’d like to go hiking with breathing fresh air, this is the right place. It’s not well-known place. So, it is not crowded even in busy season ( May thru Oct ).
